What Are Construction Documents?
Construction Documents (often referred to as “CDs”) are the full set of architectural drawings, interior elevations, and technical specifications required for a builder to price and construct your home.
They are also essential for:
Permitting
Bidding
Construction sequencing
Coordinating subcontractors and consultants
This is the most detailed and technical phase of the architectural process—but it’s still deeply rooted in design. Every line, tag, marker, and dimension builds on what was developed during Design Development. The two often overlap, especially when construction constraints or material realities inform how something should be built.
Fine-Tuning the Details
You might know you want built-in bookshelves flanking the fireplace. But should the corners be mitered or cleanly lapped? Should the vertical lines align with the baseboard or float above the mantel? What about the grain direction of the wood?
These are the kinds of decisions resolved at this stage—along with countless others.
We review and document:
Interior elevations, horizontal and vertical sections
Wall sections and cabinetry details
Millwork, door, and window schedules
Lighting plans and electrical layouts
Plumbing fixture selections
Hardware and finish specifications
Tags, markers, notes, and dimensions
We redline and re-check the set to ensure there are no errors or typos
